Lakers conservation group

Background

Lakers conservation youth group is a duly registered group with the ministry of gender youth and sports. The group was registered in the year 2007 by young individuals in Kisumu east District who believed in youth empowerment and conservation of the environment for future generations. The group consists of the youth in the informal sector, the unemployed, school going and young professionals in the field of screen acting, script acting, film production and environmental sciences.

Lakers group is managed by the executive office that includes the group chairman, secretary general, treasurer, organizing secretaries who are young people. Further, an advisory board is included in the management for the purposes of accountability and professional advice. The board includes five professionals, with the chairman of the executive committee and deliberates on all financial transactions of the group and overall management.  A designated member of the board must approve all the financial transactions of the group.

Mission

To harness synergy and bring on board the youth as the stake holders in tourism in the region, champion the course of environmental conservation and youth talent nurturance while promoting the film industry in the country.

Vision

To be a leading community based organization in the country by producing the best movies and artists in film industry and make western Kenya a leading tourist destination.

Key achievements of the organization:

1. The group has attracted a very large number of youth with current active membership at  70

2. Has acted two video clips and now working on a sixty minute film.

3. currently making and  selling  curio products

4. Has a functional  tree nursery

5. Formed a network and linkage with key people in the industry who continuously advice the            

    group.

6. Has promoted youth talent and currently is helping in the production of music by two

    members of the group.
